June is Men’s Health Month

Although June is drawing to a close, I still wanted to take a moment to share this perspective on men’s mental health. The macho attitude of stuffing your feelings down or ignoring them is antiquated and downright dangerous.

~ It’s okay to be sad.

~ It’s okay to be anxious.

~ It’s okay to be scared.

~ It’s okay to feel depressed.

~ It’s okay to feel overwhelmed.

~ It’s okay to not have everything figured out

If you feel a wave of uncertainty come crashing over you. These are perfectly normal feelings that every man experiences. And it’s okay to talk about it. (Credit: Sean Evans)

Five Things Worth Knowing About Men’s Health

  1. MAKE MAN TIME

Stay connected. Spending time with your friends is good for you.

Catch up regularly, check in and make time.

2. HAVE AN OPEN CONVERSATION

Talk about what’s really going on.

Listen. Being there for someone can be

lifesaving.

3. KNOW THE NUMBERS

At  50, talk to your doctor about prostate cancer.

If you’re of African or Caribbean descent, or have a family

history of prostate cancer, have the conversation at 45.

4. KNOW THY NUTS

Give them a feel regularly and get to know

what is normal for you. Something doesn’t seem right?

God to the doctor.

5. MOVE MORE

Get active daily. Do more of what makes you

feel good.
